Initiated by the Worldwide Fund for nature, WWF, earth hour was first observed when 2.2 million people plunged their households and business houses into darkness, in Sydney, to save energy and thereby did their bit for slowing down global warming. Due to more awareness 50 million people from all parts of the world did the same between 8.30 – 9.30 pm on March 28 2008. A day chosen as it is observed as earth day. Each one of us can create awareness amongst friends and relatives about the dangers of global warming and set an example by practicing what we preach.

Tests conducted on mud snails in New Zealand show that bottled mineral water has chemicals that contain the female sex hormone estrogen. 12 brands out of the 20 brands of mineral water bottles available in Germany tested positive. Water bottled in plastic containers had more than twice as much hormonal activity than water in glass bottles. It was found that chemicals said to have living organisms caused an increased development of embryos in the mud snails that were bred in the contaminated mineral water bottles. Drinking this water can not only affect the reproductive cycle but also reduce the production of breast milk.
